Congestive Heart Failure (CHF)

Classification of CHF

Type Features
Heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF)
  • Heart failure with left ventricular ejection function (LVEF) > 50%
  • Abnormal diastolic function
  • Normal sized heart with concentric left ventricle remodeling/hypertrophy
Heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF)
  • Heart failure with LVEF < 40% and normal diastolic function
  • Also referred to as systolic dysfunction
  • Dilated left ventricle
