  • Presence of kidney damage or decreased kidney function for > 3 months 

Specific criteria 

  • Kidney damage 
    • Abnormal kidney imaging or biopsy results 
    • Abnormal urinary sediment 
    • Increased urinary albumin excretion (albuminuria) 
  • Decreased kidney function 
    • Decreased estimated glomerular function rate (eGFR) by using serum creatinine or other equations 
    • eGFR < 60 mL/min per 1.73 m2
